OSASU UWA-OMEDE

Summer 2018

I initially heard of the program two years ago when my older sister, Adesuwa Uwa-Omede applied for the program. After seeing the mindset my older sister returned with from doing the program, I knew that this was an opportunity that I could not miss. So on April 13th when i opened my email and saw that I was accepted into the Trip Of A Lifetime program, I was ecstatic, just the idea of knowing that I was going to be able to travel during the summer had me jumping for joy. When headed to the bus pickup in Long Island, I was nervous because it had sunk in that I was going to be gonen for 24 days. However, at the same time I was happy because I saw going to be able to tour the east coast and even some parts of Canada.

The most memorable place was Niagara Falls. While on the tour, my tour group and I stood directly under the falls as 6,000 gallons of water was dumped on me per second. The water was strong enough to push me and it did. We also watched fireworks from above Niagara Falls. The Falls was even lit up. Believe me when I say it is one of the most beautiful views that anyone will ever see. We went in a jet boat and go soaked in water because the jet boat would slowly dip the nose of the boat under a class 5 rapid wave and then lifts its nose

Up quickly to throw the water.

Another place I really enjoyed was Toronto. Toronto reminded me a lot of New York. There was so much to do in Toronto. I went ice skating for the first time and I quickly learned the ropes of it. We also went to Canada’s Wonderland and it was one of the best amusement parks I have been to. I also loved spending time in Boston. We went to a play called Sheer Madness and it was a murder mystery crime. But at the same time, it was very funny.

Universal Studios was one of the best amusement parks I have ever been to. The amount of design put in to The Marvel and Harry Potter areas was amazing. At the park I went on the Hulk Ride and it was the best rollercoaster I have ever been on. The fast pacing, the loops, the sudden twists and turn all added up to make the best rollercoaster ever. While at Universal Studios I tried a Harry Potter drink called butterbeer and it tasted really good. It was like Cream soda turned into a slushie.

From my trip, I learned that each place has its own culture and history to it. Whether it’s as little as Boston calling what’s known as pizzas, in New York, pies or if it’s as big as all of Montreal speaks french while majority of Canada speaks english. Knowing this, I will be able to take the information and my personalized approaches to each demographic, because with the ability to understand different cultures it will be easier to help an area with a history that is even totally opposite to mine.
