Trip of a lifetime

Empowering students through summer travel experiences

Jovana Davis

Summer 2011

I will never forget this moment of my life. The moment when I found out I got accepted to Rein Teen Tours, Western Adventure. This experience has let me see and learn a lot of things

I’ve never been to the west coast, so I knew this would be a good opportunity for me to see what I’ve been missing. I got the opportunity to meet new people my age and have fun. I made a lot of friends and my counselors were awesome. Whenever I needed help and someone to talk to, they were always there. I was able to keep contact with some of the kids on Facebook to keep the memories and remember the laughter we shared together.

The places we went were so amazing. I’ve heard a lot of different debates on whether San Diego is better than San Francisco, and from my point of view I think San Francisco is way better than San Diego. The buildings and neighborhoods are really nice. Everything is clean. Riding the trolley was so much fun. A really great experience because you get to see a different transportation than what you see in New York. To be honest, I actually liked riding the trolley. It is almost an adventure; instead of looking outside from inside, you get to be outside while riding. There was much more I enjoyed, especially the surfing. I was bad at it, but I learned to keep trying and have fun. Our surf teacher helped us keep our heads up. Surf’s up!

I especially enjoyed the food. All the restaurants we went to were delicious. It felt good to be in different places and try different appetizers and desserts. Those were the best parts. Visiting L.A was actually special to me because I see it all the time on movies, wishing I can walk the Walk of Fame and feel how the movie stars feel. And I got that chance, and I’m so thankful because it made me feel like a movie star. I felt different. Shopping on Rodeo Drive was cool because I know famous people have been there too. I kept thinking in my head how lucky I am and wishing my family was there with me to feel what I was feeling.

After coming home, I realized I might not be able to go back to those big places and I realized I am going to miss being in that environment and doing the fun activities we did. So I thank Trip of a Lifetime for accepting me and I would definitely recommend this program to other teens as well.
