Exploring Things Out of Your Comfort Zone Isn't The Easiest - Corel Marchena (Summer 2013 Alumnus)

After being selected for Trip of a Lifetime summer 2013 excursion, high school student Corel Marchena left the familiar surroundings of New York to experience the American west. She says, “Exploring things that are out of your comfort zone is not the easiest. Before this trip it was definitely one of the hardest things for me. Once I was given this opportunity, thoughts of going on the trip alone, having to make new friends and not being with my parents or siblings for 25 days made me nervous. But I think I have definitely learned how to be more independent, outgoing and I have learned how to live and compromise with people that aren't family. I learned how to live in the moment and make them most of everyday. We did so much in one day while on tour and it got me thinking about how much time I waste at home. I made amazing friends that made the experience more enjoyable. I got to see amazing historical sites, eat at delicious restaurants and have the time of my life.”
